Posted: Mar 28,2025

Path of Exile 2 is set to receive one of its biggest updates since entering early access three months ago. Arriving on April 4th, Dawn of the Hunt introduces the Huntress class, five new Ascendancy classes, a variety of fresh skill gems, and thrilling new endgame encounters. Here’s a quick overview.

The Huntress in Path of Exile 2

The Huntress, introduced by Grinding Gear Games, is a versatile fighter blending ranged and melee combat. Armed with a spear, she can strike enemies from a distance with precise throws before swiftly closing the gap for deadly close-quarters attacks.

A standout feature of the Huntress is her Parry ability, which leaves enemies vulnerable to powerful counterattacks. According to Grinding Gear Games' Jonathan Rogers, some skills, like Disengage, are specifically designed to capitalize on a recently parried foe.

Disengage typically makes the Huntress leap backward while striking enemies ahead. However, if used after a parry, it triggers an explosion and grants her a Frenzy Charge.

With the Huntress excelling in both ranged and melee combat, the team aimed to make transitioning between the two feel dynamic. According to Rogers, this led to a class that fluidly shifts in and out of close-quarters combat, blending whirlwind strikes with elemental-infused spear throws. As a result, Grinding Gear Games claims she boasts the longest combo chains of any Path of Exile 2 class.

Unveiling Powerful New Ascendancy Classes

In addition to the Huntress, Path of Exile 2 introduces five new Ascendancy classes: The Ritualist and Amazon for the Huntress, the Witch's Lich, the Warrior's Smith of Kitava, and the Mercenary's Tactician.

Each new Ascendancy class enhances the abilities of its base class. For example, the Lich can sacrifice health to boost her energy shield. The Smith of Kitava, on the other hand, can reforge their weapons before battle, adding powerful effects like explosive fire damage. What sets the Smith apart is how they interact with armor, potentially unlocking exciting new skill combinations.

The Smith of Kitava can unlock a part of the skill tree that’s free to assign, but in return, they can’t equip body armor with traditional mods. Instead, as a master smith, they craft armor notables that grant bonuses across their armor, such as life and resistances. It will be fascinating to see how players build around this mechanic.Let us look forward to the new experience that Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt will bring us.
